First Post

Welcome to my first post!  Today while I was bored at work, I decided it might be fun to start a blog.  In hindsight, I wish I would have started 15 weeks ago when I began my training for my first full marathon.  It would have been neat to look back on my posts to re-live each day.  Maybe next time...if there is a next time.

Let's get caught up on what has happened over the past 15 weeks.  I ran a LOT!  That pretty much sums it up.  Oh, except for one little thing.  I've had an issue with my calf, a supposed micro-tear in the muscle, which has basically hurt every day.  It started sometime back in June and I went to see the chiropractor Trenton was seeing for his back and had seen for his knee.  He does active release therapy (ART) which is soft tissue therapy for injuries like mine caused by over-use.  Apparently I was so excited about this marathon that I injured myself before I ever really began.  However, being the stubborn runner that I am, I decided to keep running and push through the pain and continue to get therapy on my leg.  I was halfway through my training before the pain got really bad.  That was the point I was referred to see an orthopedist who told me I had a tear in my muscle (which the chiropractor already told me).  Basically he recommended to stop running and rest my leg so it would heal.  He gave me some ace bandages, said good luck and that was it.  Again, I decided to push on.

In the weeks since, I have continued to see my chiropractor once or twice a week to keep me running.  There have been days where the pain was too much and I just couldn't do it.  I had to stop after running just a few steps.  It's quite hard to run while holding your breath because it hurts so badly.  But there were also many days that I had great runs.  It's for those days that I decided to keep on with my training.  You see, running isn't just about exercise and keeping in shape.  For me, it's about the feeling I get when I reach that point where I could just keep running and running forever.  Or when I beat my previous personal best in a race.   It's also about all the amazing people I have met and can now call my good friends.  I have finished almost 15 weeks of training with two amazing ladies.  Without Martha and Meagan, I know I would have quit.  Running the actual marathon is only part of the accomplishment.  Getting through the training and to the start line is quite another.

Only 10 more days now.
